Summary:
"A Great Coachman" recounts the early life of Swami
Vivekananda, originally named Narendranath Dutta. As a child, Naren was
fascinated by a coachman and expressed a desire to be like him. His mother
gently guided him to aspire to be a coachman like Lord Krishna, leading people
on the right path. Naren grew up studying the Ramayana and Mahabharata and
later met his spiritual teacher, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, through whom he
experienced God. Swami Vivekananda became a monk, traveled widely, and fought
against social evils like the caste system. His speech at the Parliament of
Religions in Chicago, in 1893, emphasized the universality of all religions. He
founded the Ramakrishna Mission, and his teachings on love, tolerance, and
education continue to inspire generations.
